When we graduated from high school, we were given a diploma, which was actually a restraining order that prohibited us from ever coming within 500 feet of the school ever again. We wish we were in the Texas school system after reading that one group of schools gave away a brand new Camaro convertible to a student with good grades and attendance.
In typical fashion, the person who won the car was a 14-year old girl who can’t even drive the thing. The car was used as the grand prize in a program that incentivized students to maximize their time in class and maintain a high level of attendance.
With so many school systems across the country struggling to pay for freakin’ pencils, there must be some sneering administrators out there, after learning about this program. The Camaro was donated, were guessing by a parent that owns a car dealership.
They got a tax write off, and a 14 year old girl got a convertible.

Looks like she’ll now need tobget a job to pay the taxes on the gift as well as file a tax return. Too young to do both of those.
Used to be the only prize you’d get for attending schools was called suprisingly enough an “education.”
They gave someone a Chevy Cruz in my Sister’s school district for the same reasons. Camaro trumps Cruz though.
As a 14 year old cannot legally own a car – her parents were given a convertible Camaro. Other than that, why do we reward the kids when it’s the parents who raised the child?
Sweet ! Only in Texas ,great story and good for her !
They gave someone a ’98 Cavalier for the same reason in my district last year.
Damn spaces in the security codes (4 incorrect and counting)
Lots of 14 year old girls drive in Texas. While it’s true that they can’t get a license, approximately 25% of all Texas adults don’t have licenses either. If Momma doesn’t see the need for a license, she’s certainly not going to require one of her lil girl.
