2010 Chevy Silverado XFE is Rated for 22 mpg

GM is touting the fact that the 2010 Silverado and Sierra 1500 XFE (extra fuel economy) models will get 22 mpg on the highway. This is achieved by using a recalibrated six-speed automatic transmission and active engine management with cylinder deactivation so that the 5.3L V8 operates on just four cylinders in light-load situations.

Ford’s SFE (super fuel economy) model gets 21 mpg without having to shut off a bank of cylinders, and has higher rearend gears.

Oh, yeah. One thing struck us as being funny. This “fuel saver” truck has a press photo that features it towing a boat, which was probably out on the lake all day slaking down fuel like a drunken sailor. And we’ve got to imagine that fuel economy takes a nose dive when a trailer is hooked up to this rig.
