A Swiss Junkyard Closes; Sad Video

A Swiss Junkyard Closes; Sad Video

Here’s a sad bit of news from Switzerland, where a long running junkyard containing cars from the 1930s through the 1970s was forced to close and sell off what inventory it could. Authorities shut down the business due to environmental concerns.

Sadly, what inventory that was not sold was put to the crusher, or shredder—we’re not sure what the preferred method of automo-cide is used in Switzerland. Either way it kind of sucks. It also raises the question of our sanity that we’re sad to hear of cars we’d realistically never see being lost a half a world away.

Regardless of our weird hoarding tendencies, we read the story on Swissinfo.ch. We were pleased to find a very nice piece of video to go with the story. It’s a collection of nice stills that were taken of the yard shortly before it was busted up and sold. It reminds us of a classic northern junkyard with cars essentially sitting in the woods.

A lot os stuff must have sold as the story mentions that 250,000 Swiss dollars worth of junk was paid for and hauled away. In the video you can see that there’s lots of stuff that’s too far gone even by our skewed standards.

Shop your local junkyard. You never know when it might be gone!
