Amazing Find: This Model A Is A 1960s Period Perfect Drag Time Capsule

Sometimes when we find cars for sale online we have to breathe into a paper bag to remain conscious. That is what happened when we found the eBay listing and photos you can see below for this Ford Model A that was drag raced back in the 1960s. Thing appears completely unaltered from those days, right down to the homemade headers and stuff. Cars like this one NEVER seem to make it to modern times and we can understand why. They get crashed, they get raced to death, they get sold through the hands of multiple people and then they disappear or become street rods. GAH!

This thing has a 1964 Corvette 327 it with a cross ram that is topped by a pair of Carter carbs, a manual transmission, a “roll bar” that may or may not be exhaust tubing, and enough personality and style to keep it cool for the rest of time. Oh, did we mention that the car has the engine set way back and that there is NO firewall behind it?! Yeah, we’re wondering if the car was raced that way or if someone was building a firewall and just gave up.

The pie crust slicks, the high riding stance, and the neanderthal era chassis enhancements makes this a truly amazing car. It is one thing when we see machines like this faithfully recreated it is wholly another to find one as it was in the 1960s. An amazing beast for sure.

Scroll down to see some photos and then hit the eBay link to the ad for the car –

That paint is WAY too shiny and badly needs “distressing” – it spoils the whole look and feel of the car and a quick session with a sandblaster should take care of that. In England we call this a “tush job” when a vendor slaps a fresh coat of paint on a car just before selling it to ramp up its value and hide any horrors that may be lurking under it. That’s a complete waste of time with this beauty as it appears just fine….

Yeah, and it appears to have had a pretty thorough rattle can Krylon detail job done to the chassis/wheels (probably tires too). Sloppily done too, as it oversprayed onto everything surrounding it. Headers, etc. What a shame.

other than the crappy rattle can detail job (shoulda left it the hell alone) it is glorious. I would tear it down, and put it back together properly. add a firewall and some period paint…laces and panels, maybe some bubbles and fades….make it safe and drive/race the life out of it….

That’s a period correct pile of shit!

Just because it’s old, doesn’t mean it is right.

Nor is it indicative of the quality of cars that were built back then… at least in my region of the country.

Based on everything I have read on the HAMB, to be period correct, it must be black or black with a little red on it. What is this guy trying to pull??
