Arms Race, Pt. 2: Will The Viper Make A Comeback?

Arms Race, Pt. 2: Will The Viper Make A Comeback?

After a run that honestly was much longer than anybody could’ve predicted, the Dodge Viper came to an end, it’s V-10 snarl to be no more, it’s creation station to become a museum. It was sad to see an era pass by, but we figured that at least FCA was honoring the work that the Connor Avenue assembly plant had done well now that the automotive equivalent of a gentleman bouncer with a confirmed kill list had been removed from the rolls. That was it…the Viper was gone.

Until this week, when the rumor mill caught on fire about a reborn Viper. Both Car and Driver and Allpar’s forums have been lighting up with a bevy of rumors of a revived snake to appear sometime between 2021-24, probably on a platform shared with Alfa Romeo and Maserati (not too surprising, given how the last-gen Viper was considered an Alfa 8C Competizione clone. And the biggest thing that everybody is talking about: it won’t be a V-10. Instead, at least one if not two versions of the upcoming next-gen Hemi V8 are expected to appear if this project is really a go.

We are calling it a rumor until we start seeing elements from FCA proper. Hopefully they don’t tease out a new Viper like they did the Demon…in fact, if they kept quiet until the car was ready, the shock value alone would be amazing. But we suspect that there just might be a chance for this to happen…you don’t suppose that all the comparisons between the Viper and the Hellcat twins had anything to do with a renewed car, would you?

Here’s hoping…

With all the big hit that the Demon has been. They need a super car to go with the bad ass sedan and 2 door coupe they now have . But tghats all up to the bean counters

Cancelling the viper is a mistake . Every Viper that is built is SOLD ! Why would anyone stop production of anything that is sold out . changing platforms is a mistake . A Viper is a Viper not an Alfa or Mase . A Corvette isn’t a rebodied anything so why should a Viper . Rebodying a Viper would not make it an American car . (how about a Fiat motor?)
