Auto Trader Classics Find: A 1971 Lamborghini Miura

Auto Trader Classics Find: A 1971 Lamborghini Miura

Recently we polled members of the BangShift forums about their level of interest in the new Lamborghini that made a big splash at the Paris Auto Show. The votes were split right up the middle with some thinking it was boss and the others not really caring about it at all. One historic Lamborghini that came up multiple times in the conversation was the drop dead sexy Miura. The Miura is an important car for Lamborghini because it was the first real mid-engine sports car the company built after having specialized in grand touring machines for years.

Only 764 Miuras were built during their entire run from 1966 to 1972. They were sent along by a 3.9L V12 engine. weighed in at 2800lbs, and drivers had a five-speed crash box to row through. Interestingly this was the first car to start the tradition of Lamborghinis being named after fighting bulls.

There were a couple different generations of Miuras produced. The car we just spotted at Auto Trader Classics is a “bubble” example in the sense that it falls right at the end of the P400S era and the beginning of the P400SV run. The P400SV edition was the final run of cars and their production started in Spring of 1971. This car is a P400S and the way it can be identified as such is because the car is equipped with the famous “eyelashes” around the front head lights. Outside of some styling changes, the engine received a new set of cams, and they got a new set of intake manifolds. The motor was good for about 365hp, plenty to make it a road rocket.

This is one of 338 P400S Miuras produced beterrn December 1968 and March 1971. They are very rare, and they are very expensive. You’ll need $850,000 to ride off with this one.
