AutoTrader Classics Find: A V6 Powered 1948 Austin A40 Sedan

The Austin is kind of a forgotten sister when it comes to the gasser era. Willys, Thames, and Anglias get most of the love in old photos, and vintage video. While a rare sight back in the 1960’s, they are practically automotive unicorns now. We found one for sale on AutoTraderClassics and it caught our eye for a couple of reasons.

The car itself, being an all-steel original piece was a jaw dropper, and the semi-weirdo Buick V6 engine combo was another point of interest. Once we started looking at some of the details about the car, we were really geeked out. This is a neat piece!

The engine is a 231ci, 1977 Buick Odd-Fire V6 backed by a Turbo 350 transmission and a solid rear axle. That rear axle is a narrowed 1968 Dodge Charger piece that has 6″ lopped out of it. Up front, all the stock pieces have been ditched for a narrowed 1977 AMC Pacer front end that uses a Mercury Capri rack an pinion.

While the A/G sticker on the rear window is kind of a hopeful stretch, this is one neat car. We’d live with the V6 for about 13 second before going with a high winding small inch Chevy engine or perhaps a large inch Hemi. We’re not very mapped out with this plan yet.

You’d be the only dude at the cruise night with one of these if you buy the car!
