Every car magazine that wasn’t Road and Track or Automobile had them on the cover: a hunkered down piece of wicked creation that had a massive blower sticking through the hood. It was the anti-subtle: here’s proof that I need tons of atmosphere to feed the beast underneath this hood. Blower whine for days, and the promise of good amounts of grunt available at any time the pedal got any kind of pressure. Mothers hid their children, dogs ran for cover and grown men made messes in their shorts. It was awesome and I still love a well-done blower through the hood. Not just a scoop…that’s cheesy beyond cheesy…but a real-deal blower? Yes, please.

Blowers have taken a bit of a backseat over the last twenty or so years in favor of the smooth-hood, subtle look but check out the Magnuson-blown Camaro that did a meet-and-greet at Hoonigan’s yard. Tell me that this engineering mule isn’t wicked. The way that the LT yelps when the throttle bodies….BOTH of them…open wide is enough to cure me of several aliments of aging. I love the sound, I love the fury, but seriously…just sitting there, tell me that the blower just barely sticking above the hoodline doesn’t look somehow even more sinister than a massive lung and bugcatcher.
