Forum member “Aircooled” recently put up this neat picture of a house that belongs to someone with their priorities straight in life. One car, one truck, done. And both are unique pieces that independently are worth owning, so seeing them together like you took a look into a slice of 1979 makes it that much better. The GMC is a 1978 or older setup (you eagle-eyed readers can probably do better than I can at narrowing that year down) and is exactly what Square Body freaks go nuts for…two-tone paint, the truck Rally wheels, not a speck of rust in sight. It’s the perfect classic pickup truck, probably rocking a 350 and automatic. Comfortable enough to drive every day, still enough of a real truck that it can be used without worrying about whether or not a sensor is going to freak out or if the infotainment screen is going to have a seizure or not.
To the right of the truck is one of Pontiac’s better decisions during their very bi-polar years in the late 1970s. Upper management was very clear that the GTO was dead and that, try as they might, the good old days of performance were not coming back for anyone, ever. But that was one side of the house…on the other side of this internal civil war were the gearheads, the people who made the Trans Am exciting long after the party was over. They wanted to make something out of the Grand Am, and if it couldn’t be called The Judge, then why not go with a racing name that sounded similar to Trans Am? The Can Am got it all…a big-cube V8, shaker scoop, the wheels, and a ducktail spoiler that wound up being the car’s downfall (the mold broke and nobody bothered to fix it.) Only 1,377 of these hot rod personal coupes made it out of the gate, so seeing it parked next to the GMC makes it all that much better.
This person is living right, and that made me wonder what I’d pick if I had to choose one car and one truck. The truck choice is easy for me: a 1970s era Dodge Club Cab dually with a Cummins swap. The car selection is a bit more sporadic…which is no shock if you actually follow along with my ever-changing wish list…but for today, I think I’d like to park a 1972 Dodge Charger next to it. Make mine a big-block SE model with the funky three-segment taillights and the hidden headlight face, please, and make it rowdy. Yeah, it’s an all Mopar show, but those are pretty solid picks and I’d argue for either one.
So, what’s your call?

I’d have to go with the ’67 Kaiser Jeep Gladiator and set it beside my ’68 AMC Javelin. That’s how I roll.
My driveway consists of a ’79 Chevy c-20 350/4 speed and an ’81 Camaro z-28 as of now…
78 f250 Ranger 4×4, 2005 Mustang GT. Got the Ranger in process of rebuilding, will get the Mustang eventually
My ’74 D100 Club Cab with 5.7 Hemi and my ’75 Duster street / strip car with a 340.
I really like my current driveway setup!
A 72 Cutlass for my fun summertime car
& a 97 Chevy Z71 for everything else! It’s new enough to have all the creature comforts I want but basic & cheap enough for a DIY guy to take care of
I would like to look into my garage and see backed in. The grills of a 67 Dodge D-200 4 door ,that I now have . And next to it a 70 super bee convert. That I would love to own .Those 2 front ends are very cool in my book
considering I live in europe, bigger isn’t always too practical 😉 it would be a chevy c10, and an opel diplomat (diplo is for european standards still big, AND they came with a sbc)
If I had only these 2 choices, ’72 or earlier 2wd Suburban and Chevelle.
Far from perfect but I like my ’99 Olds Bravada and ’64 MGB with a sbc.
I only get to pick 2?
For the truck I feel confident that, with a gun to my head, I’m going with a 1970 Ford F250 4X4.
The car on the other hand, that’s a hard one…a toss up between an early mopar B body, a 69-70 Pontiac Grand Prix or a 72 Olds Cutlass.
I think at this point in my life I want the Poncho. Make it “dark green metallic” with a black interior. Add a 455 (or a chevy 454) for power, It’s gotta have a manual trans and air conditioning as well. I want to roast tires and make noise but I don’t want to sweat while doing it.
1970 Pontiac Grand Prix / 1970 Ford F250 4X4.
Thats easy.My 1969 428 scj ram air 4 speed GT mustang,and my 1976 F-100 supercab .
Got it covered with the 4th coming up, red ’70 Chevelle SS convertible, white ’03 F-150 and Blue ’01 F-150. Love the Chevelle, but the F-150’s refuse to die!
’69 1/2 440 6 BBL Road Runner, ’68 Dodge crew cab, big block, air, all that.
I’d die happy
69 ford crew cab 4×4 with a 6bt and a 70 1/2 falcon SCJ
1960 E28 Studebaker truck and a 1963 Stude Lark w/ a Stude 289 built to R3 specs. For now, the 1990 Ranger and ’03 Marauder keep me happy.
Whoever chose the top picture to be the thumbnail for this wins at car-opinions. I can now rest, there is someone better out there. Well done.
1960 Chevrolet Apache 10 long bed, step side and a 67′ Firebird 400 vert. Though it’s hard to say a driveway without several partial AMCs in it just doesn’t seem right.
1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne Super shortbox/ 1970 Pontiac GTO The Judge
90s Chevy quad cab, long bed, dually and a ’68 notchback Barracuda.
Our curent new rig, 2014 Raptor, and for the car can I have another light truck? 71 GMC 3/4 ton Suburban (I can’t stand the door panels on the 72s), it is just a big station wagon after all.
Mine right now is a 93 F150 supercab shortbed and a 71 Grabber Maverick.
