BangShift Question Of The Day: What Are You Getting Done This Winter?

BangShift Question Of The Day: What Are You Getting Done This Winter?

Yeah, yeah, I know…winter doesn’t start until December 21st. You wanna know something? I don’t care. Far as I’m concerned, the moment the calendar says “December”, it’s winter, and the weather seems to be upholding that view this year. I sprayed off the Cadillac in preparation for the fun that will be had later this week and the water froze before it had a chance to run off of the massive flanks of the car. Winter is here, regardless of whether or not the season actually is. People are digging out their winter rides. We’re already seeing winter projects starting to pop up. And we’re excited to see what the off-season has in store for next year.

One of the best pieces of news we’ve seen so far comes from my backyard track, Beech Bend, where they are bringing in some heavy equipment to do some surface work on the dragstrip. It’s not that Beech Bend is a bad location or has had that many issues (I’m not the one to know those details when I’m running a mid-13 second land yacht a couple of times a year at best) but with events like Outlaw Street Car Racing, LS Fest, the Holley Hot Rod Reunion and more, any work that goes towards improving racing is an excellent investment indeed. I have projects lined up that will progress as fast as I can work on them in-between racing crapcans at NCM Motorsports Park, Chad and Cole have their hands busy, and Lohnes gets to get a semblance of a breather before he kicks back into high gear for the 2019 season. Our friends are busy too…I know that Kevin from JunkyardDigs has purchased at least two separate vehicle rescue projects for next year’s filming season and that Dylan McCool is hard at work with his Mopars, especially his 1969 Charger.

Everybody is busy, many have plans, so we want to know: what will you be doing while it’s cold out?

  1. Race Car Alex

Racing. Thats the good thing about living in Florida. Although, we’ve managed to wear out motors in both the race car and motorhome, so we now limp around the state for a few months, before giving our entire operation a go-through when the heat comes back.

We will have an indoor Hotwheels drag race twice this winter. So we have to get that all put together.I’m taking a 360 Mopar out of a truck. Doing some cool stuff to that.Getting it ready to go into a 67 D-200 four door truck. The wifes 61 Rambler convert needs some engine work.Setting up a 1938 Southbend metal lathe I bought last spring,I now have everything I need. Updating the heating system in the shop. That’s gona be first. Other than that not much.Good thing I’m retired.

Re-assembling my wife’s ’69 Mustang when it gets home from the paint shop in early December will be the big project this winter.

I wasted the C4 in my Mustang on the last race day of 2018, so that has to come out, get fixed and put back in. Also changing out all the20 year old fuel lines for new ones and freshening up the rearend and axles, it’s time.

After typing that all out, it looks like a lot, I better get to work.

I have a 1976 BMW 2002 that I put a SBC 383 with a T5 trans in a couple of years ago. Car was built mostly of craigslist or Facebook marketplace used junk. This winter I am in the process of switching to a LS 5.3 with a turbo set up and th400 transmission.

The LSR Mustang is getting the engine freshened up. We are building new headers adding 600 or more pounds of lead and lowering the rear 2 inches..
Oh, and I am finally putting paint on the car. Bonneville 2019..

Just dropped in a stout 360 into my ’80 Plymouth Arrow pickup, and throwing away the useless POS TCI transmission which has had the truck laid up on multiple occasions. Then reversing the spindles to convert to rack and pinion steering, in order to give me some room for decent headers rather than block huggers….

I have a low mile 99\’ Dakota R/T and the plans are to stuff a recently acquired 440 mill into it. Heads are done, just need to do the bottom end.
