BangShift Question Of The Day: What Is Your Dream Project Find This Week?

BangShift Question Of The Day: What Is Your Dream Project Find This Week?

Forget poetry and prose. I’m covered in coolant and grease from doing a water pump on my wife’s truck. I drove the Imperial into town to get parts and I’m pretty sure that I can’t blame that ringing in my ears on ten years of helicopter related activities. I’m studying the parts list to see what’s truly needed and what isn’t for the Dirty Cougar’s upcoming King of the Heap season…yes, that car still exists…and I’ve got to figure out when I can send Angry Grandpa to the shop to get the collapsed front struts replaced under warranty so that I quit banging the exhaust off of every last speed bump in Western Kentucky. And that’s the stuff I can share with you. It’s another busy week at BangShift Mid-West, readers, and because I’m brain-fried and sleep-deprived, I figured that today was worth a soft pitch.

I stumbled across this video of a guy who had the luck of finding cars in tractor trailers. 1970 Chevelle SS, 1969 Chevelle SS, 1968 Camaro Z-28…this is a GM lover’s paradise. The cars are on the rougher end of the scale, but if you’ve got the time, determination, skill and the scratch necessary to fund such a build, there’s options. Honestly, that 1969 Chevelle is speaking to me. I don’t care if it’s a lowly 307 Malibu, I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for a ’69 Chevelle. Then again, the 1971-72 Olds Cutlass they gloss past in this video would be welcomed here too.

For the sake of starting the discussion, my current non-Mopar desire of the moment is a 1981 Pontiac LeMans. Sure, it’s a Chevy Malibu by any other name, but unlike the Chevy, that nose…ever since I first learned about Tim Richmond’s race car variation,, I’ve looked at the LeMans as the performance Pontiac mid-size that should have been instead of the Grand Prix and the 2+2 homologation special. I would’ve loved to have seen Pontiac stick with the sloped back glass instead of going full GM Lemmings and marching to Corporate’s drum beat. I would’ve loved to have seen what the A/G body would have looked like with updates by the end of 1987. I bet it would have been badass.

Okay, your turn…

Today in fact my new dream project just surfaced on Barnfinds. It’s a 1972 Ventura red 2 door coupe with a 307 SBC from the factory!
