Question of the Day: Do You Care About the New Corvette Stingray? Do You Like Its New Look?

Question of the Day: Do You Care About the New Corvette Stingray? Do You Like Its New Look?

Unless the rock you are living under is completely disconnected from the outside world, you know by now that the brand new Corvette Stingray was unveiled by General Motors yesterday in Detroit. The car is a completely new piece complete with the brand spankin’ LT1 engine, a seven speed manual, completely redesigned interior, and about a million other details. The car is 181-lbs lighter than the C6 Corvette that it replaces and it’ll be fast enough to lay waste to most of the internal combustion powered vehicles on this planet. Oh, and lots of them will be driven to golf courses on weekend in warm weather states barely above idle.

The Corvette is an American icon and we’re damned happy that General Motors is still producing it. The car has come close to being chopped from the  line up a couple of times through its long history but has always survived and evolved to compete with cars way out of its price category. It has been and still is the every man’s super car. All that being said, lots of people hate ’em for various reasons. We’re wondering where you stand!

DO YOU CARE ABOUT THE NEW CORVETTE STINGRAY? IF YOU DO YOU LIKE THE NEW LOOK?

This version is just about 100% irrelevant to what I do with cars. But a 62 vette with a straight axle at each end still looks bitchin

  2. Whelk

Had I the means, I would likely acquire one. Maybe ten years down the road I’ll be able to grab the engine from one out of a junkyard to drop in something classic.

I like everything but the tail lights. Maybe some day they will grow on me, but right now it looks like someone rear ended a Camaro. The rest looks awesome.

  4. Rocky

My 65 Rambler Marlin has the same shape rear window. It is kind of cool but not a wonder car. 7 speed is overkill my Rambler is a 3speed OD with about 250hp and it is comfortable in the fast lane??

have always loved the Vette ! ,,, new ones are complete super cars
however, this one, instead of dealing w/ issue that they’re not unique enough, (Ferrari etc drivers view them as a “plain ol’ chevy” ), am a little disappointed that it shares the Camaro vibe w/ tail lights etc.

I agree with Orv. The new interior looks pretty sweet. But not feeling the very Camaro looking rear…

Hate the rear end, looks like a “techno Camaro” and considering I hate the Camaro this is even worse… The interior console reminds me of my Saab 9-5 with a slight bit of increased drivers focus with the way it’s wrapped towards the driver. The quad exhausts bug me… bad. If they were smaller or not integrated into the body I think I’d not mind but the way they are now just makes me think “tuner”.

Otherwise it does look supercar like with the coke bottled body coming in at the doors and the multifacet hood. It does look like the technology that it’s wrapped around and that’s a good thing with the exception of the above mentioned niggles.

I’m not totally loving the Camaro-esq rear treatment, I think the rear quarters look like a Camaro from the side as well. I would love to own one, it may be a “plain ol’ Chevy” however it has always been on the cutting edge of technology, for the good (Z06, LS1/2/6/7) or bad (Crossfire). And like Whelk said, give it a couple years and what will this technology be doing in the aftermarket?

Its a shame techs at dealerships just dont have the know how to fix a problem with out making it worst the flat rate system to repair just dont go with a car like this pay a tech hourly as the dealer still wants his 67% gross profit on everthing a vega or a vettte. And charging HAS waste fee even it payed by oil company. we calleded dealer boat payment. How much over sticker willit sale for

It kinda has too much going on, but its pretty good. I wouldnt turn it away if someone was giving it to me! Im not sure about the 1/4 window,I dont think I like that.

  10. Arild Guldbrandsen

I dont like it…and i think it looks like a updated version of the Nissan GTR..and the japanese supercar designers havent impressed me that much.

Maybe its better to look at it live, but seriously..i think the C6 is the best looking Vette so far.

As a life long lover of Corvettes and many years of owning them I think it sucks. I don’t know what GM was aiming for but they missed tasteful design by a mile.

  12. jerry z

The taillights are hideous! Where the designers passing the bong around during thsi process!

Other than that the car looks sharp.

Well I see it as Corvette,it still has the styling points. But I see corprate continuity, the tail lights, the qaurter panels(Cadillac),green house.

Those rear qaurter windows dont fit Corvette,(no rear seat) why?

I think it’s hard to not have the styling lean to Japan, thats where young engineers get thier influence. West cost design centers. What does last years Ferarri look like?Seems Corvette tends to style about 1 or 2 years behind.

I’d still have one, even as a Ford Guy

  14. duhski

It looks like the bastard child of a Dodge Viper and a new Camaro. It’s pretty but not made for someone who has to work for a living.

  15. autounion

There’s more styling points I like than dislike.

I am waiting to see a C7 in person to determine if the rear suffers from the fat ass styling syndrome like the C5/6 models.

Be thankful that the Corvette is a front engine design, which opens up more styling ideas than a mid-engine configuration. Just think if the Corvette turned out to look like a lame-o Ferrari. Ugh.

  16. Ed Chesher

What look were they going for? My guess would be the “NON-AARP” look. Seriously, I just read that the AVERAGE age of a Corvette buyer is 60 years old. That seriously makes it the Buick of sports cars (though I would argue Buick has significantly changed their image in recent years).

I will be attending the NAIAS in a week or two, and see first hand what it looks like. Pictures often don’t do a car justice. That said, I like most of what I see. The rear seems a big large, as has the last couple generations, most notably the C5. Yet I think it could grow on me.

Let’s face it, Chevy had to drastically restyle this Vette. It now can go head to head with European exotics, and the sharp edge bold styling has been in their book for what, 15-20 years? I personally can’t wait to see the ZR1!

Would I buy one if I had the money? I don’t know, I still like the unrefined, knuckle draggin’ characteristics of an old 60’s muscle car. Yet I’m sure a little time in the seat of a new Vette, bangin’ through 7 gears, could change my mind.

  17. Monk

    The Vette is the Vette.

Agree…looks sorts lika a Viper with Camaro tail lights.

    It’s emerging with today’s market.
    I’m still stick in 1967.

NO!…. it looks like a hotwheels toy . I like the Camaro much better , cleaner lines and I’m a GM guy

I like it – but the weird thing for me, living in Australia, is seeing people say `oh, its just a Chevy’ or ` Corvettes are driven by oldies’ or whatever. Over here we love anything US (at least the muscle car guys do) so ANY Mustang, Camaro or Corvette has a bit of a wow factor about it… but even with that out the way, I like it. Sure, it has a Skyline’s C pillar / window, Camaro taillights and a Ferrari vibe about it, but are these necessarily bad things? End of the day, it is a genuine US built supercar which will be cheap as compared to euro exoticars. And it will sound nice….bit of an aside, I heard a V12 Ferrari the other day – but driving at our retarded 50 k/ph (31 MP/H) suburban speed limit – sounded absolutely horrible. Sure they sound OK having their rings revved out but putting around they sound like shit. At least a V8 at lover speeds still sounds nice….

I was hoping for the split rear window like the concept car, but this is close. Reminds me a little of the ’67 or even the ’78 rear glass. Since I’ll never be able to afford one, it’s irrelevant what I think, but I’ll say it anyway. As long as it has a stick shift, and rear wheel drive, it’s good. Wrong wheel drive and flappy paddles need to stay in Japan. Overall, I like it!

  21. POS Racing

That car is busier that a $5 hooker on an Army base. The only thing chevy missed was the 3 chrome stick on vents for the front fenders. Way too many different styling cues slapped on the last model vette. Was Homer Simpson on the design team? D’oh!

Thanks for every other informative site. Where else may I get that kind of info written in such an ideal method? I’ve a challenge that I’m simply now running on, and I have been at the look out for such info.
