Question Of The Day: What Do You Look For On A Roadtrip? From Tourist Stops To Hidden Treasures, We Want To Hear Them!

Question Of The Day: What Do You Look For On A Roadtrip? From Tourist Stops To Hidden Treasures, We Want To Hear Them!

(Lead photo: via The Brougham Society) There are twenty-something days left until the September equinox and the end of summer for the year. Unless you live in the Desert Southwest, soon all of the features of fall will be descending upon us: colorful leaves, cooler air, pumpkin spice freaking anything, and so on. If you have been putting off any kind of sightseeing trip, this is one of the final calls for an enjoyable road trip before the leaves are all gone, the branches are bare, and the weather is frigid. Or maybe you’re just a badass and like to road trip, period, and don’t care what time of year it is. That’s cool, too. But are you the type of person who just makes a beeline from Point A to Point B, or do you enjoy the journey? Do you stop and take a look at the little cool things along the way? Maybe you do it like Lohnes does and incorporate some neat stops along the way. Maybe you’re like me and look for something specific…a big one for me is older painted wall advertising, like this one for a dealership that was painted sometime around 1915 and had been hidden by another building’s wall for the better part of those hundred years. Do you “eat your way” around when you’re on the road, stopping in local joints for a new flavor? September is shaping up to be a busy month for all three of us, and we could use some suggestions as we head out the front door and onto our travels!

Finding this stuff is really cool. Wish I had more time. NYC is loaded with stuff like this too. Many times I wish I had a camera to take pictures years ago of stuff that is gone now.

I take the scenic route whenever possible. I plan road trips based on the best greasy spoon diners for breakfast, and the best steak joints for dinner. I’ll often pull off the Interstate into a small town and vow to not leave until I find something cool to photograph. Once I found a 61 Rambler trar with a snowplow literally 30 seconds after getting into town.

I make a general plan of route, but after that I follow my nose and my gut. Whatever looks interesting. I have driven two hours out of my to look at giant sequoias.

I allow plenty of time to see and experience as much as I can on a road trip! Adventure begins on the exit ramp
