As I’m writing this from a hotel room in Las Vegas before the 2018 NHRA Toyota Nationals get kicked off around here, it got me to thinking. There are a load of cool cities that have race tracks either really close to them or not that far outside of town. Bandimere is a quick drive from Denver, Sonoma is just up the road from San Francisco, of course Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a squirt up 15 from the Las Vegas Strip. There are loads of places that do not qualify. Brainerd is not a suburb of the twin cities and Reading ain’t exactly knocking on Philly’s door.
We’re not talking just drag strips, either. We’re talking tracks in general and those could including pulling facilities, flat track bikes, dirt ovals, asphalt ovals, you name it. So there’s the rules. We want to know what the coolest city in America is that is also packing a race track in its general vicinity.
Vegas? ‘Frisco? PHILLY!!?? You guys are nuts, and going in the wrong direction! Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The one closest to you.
There is a Walmart and Casino within walking distance of the Monster Mile, Dover Downs, Delaware!
I like Vegas with all the tracks in one area, the gambling and you often get to watch military aircraft coming in and out of Nellis AFB!
Grand Bend in Ontario Canada is a pretty cool race facility and touristy area too..
Limestone Maine.
Pretty God damn cold there!
Gary is right about Bowling Green, but Indy is hard to beat when it comes to whatever you want racing action.Of course I’ve lived there most of my life so the city itself ain’t that great to me, that’s why I’ve relocated to the civilized wilds of North Hazel, Kentucky. Nice and quiet, but a drive to any good racing.
For me personally it’s Bowling Green, KY. plenty of things to do in the area besides racing.
Corvette Museum and Awful Waffle come to mind.
Dallas runs a great facility!
Got to go with the home town, SIR/ Pacific Raceways/
