Just yesterday we ran a video item showing the kick ass, one night only revival of old school Pro Stock racing from Thompson Dragway last year. We openly questioned why no one had stepped up and created a class for these cars and our shock that people weren’t already building them. We then got a note from our pal and fellow ace announcer Brian Olson that he was building one, and it is totally rad. The 1971 Vega, to be named the Circus City Flyer (which was the same name his former A/Nostalgia Dragster ran under) has some impressive pieces and companies behind it.
Brian operates Olson Paint and Body in Lima, Indiana. Aside from awesome custom paint and collision work, his shop is responsible for the paint on lots of professional NHRA drag race machines from Top Fuelers to Funny Cars to Pro Mods. Antron Brown’s dragster has a chrome stripe on it this season which everyone would look at and immediately believe was a vinyl wrap. Not so. The talent at Olson’s shop laid it down in paint!
Back to this kick ass little Vega. Charlie Westcott is building the small block motor, RJ Race Cars is doing the chassis work, Moser is building the rear end, Mickey Thompson rollers will be on the corners and House of Kolors Candy Red will be under the REAL gold leaf lettering.
Knowing Brian as well as we do, this is not going to be some half assed deal. The man is full throttle, full time, so this Vega will be a real show stopper. Our hope is that the word gets out about this car and it inspires other guys to start building! Screaming small blocks and stick shifts? What in the hell is better than that?!
Commence drooling…
