Bob Tasca Sr. Spotted Testing His Cobra Jet Mustang

Bob Tasca Sr. Spotted Testing His Cobra Jet Mustang

Our pal Jack Webster, a Mopar man by all accounts, was momentarily struck with the same affliction that we had when drooling over a Cobra Jet Mustang recently. It’s called, “I-want-to-drive-a-Cobra-Jet-really-freaking-bad-itis.”

Jack spotted the car during a track rental session at New England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire. The car was being driven by none other than Bob Tasca Sr., who told Jack that he was making his first laps since 1969!

Tasca Sr. ran a couple consistent 10.0 laps and told Jack that the car has been 9.88 previously. Bob Tasca III is currently a hot shoe on the NHRA trail in the Nitro Funny Car class, carrying on the long family tradition of wringing out Fords on the dragstrip.

This car is lettered up in the same fashion that their famous 1960’s racers were when their legendary driver and fellow Rhode Islander Bill Lawton wheeled the series of “Mystery” machines to match race and national event wins across the land. Interestingly the “Mystery” series of cars were numbered in descending order. The number after the word “Mystery” (i.e. Mystery 9) stood for the ET range that the car would run in. We believe the last of the classic machines was the Mystery 7 flip-top Funny Car.

These puppies are all business.
