Sometimes the right book hits the shelf at the right time. Such is the case with the Chevy Small-Block V-8 Interchange Manual 2nd Edition by David Lewis. With the economy in shambles and hot rodders needing to pinch pennies like we haven’t in years, this is a great resource to use while scouring for good factory parts in the wrecking yards.
The book is really a fount of information that every diehard small-block builder, racer, or fan should have. From casting numbers and technical information to some good solid tips on what mixes with what to make good power, it’s a great shelf resource book.
Sure, there is a massive aftermarket surrounding the SBC, but let’s face it, we’re all looking to save money or at least finish our projects on a budget and this book can provide you with the recipe to build a nice motor out of factory parts.
This updated version also carries information about the Vortec series of motors as well as the LT1 and LT4.
One of the things we really liked was the virtual camshaft catalog that’s in the book. There’s a wide selection of camshaft grinds shown with part numbers from just about every single manufacturer you can think of. It obviously contains all the other info you’d expect with specs and casting numbers for blocks, heads, cranks, etc.
We actually scored an early copy and this book has not hit store shelves or the internet yet, so you’ve got some time to save your pennies for a copy. We’d recommend it for anyone who is planning on building a budget motor, rebuilding a stocker for a restoration, or who just wants to learn more about engines, Chevy small blocks in specific.
Keep your eyes peeled on www.motorbooks.com, amazon.com or your local bookseller for this dandy to hit the shelf. It’ll pay for itself a bunch of times over on one junkyard trip if you are armed with the right info and score the good stuff on the cheap!
