BangShift Daily Tune Up: Free Ride – The Edgar Winter Group (1973)

Don’t even think of trying to name a harder rocking albino person than Edgar Winter because that person does not exist. Winter has been jamming hard since his rise to fame in the 1970s on the back of songs like Free Ride and the famed instrumental Frankenstein. Despite this album having one of the more unfortunate covers of all time, we’re rolling with the catchy Free Ride today because that’s the mood we’re in. Don’t hate. Appreciate.

This song had a rebirth a few years ago on the sound track of the movie Dazed and Confused. It is as good a driving song as any and the catchy guitar riffs always get our head bobbing. Don’t let anyone catch you trying to hit the falsetto notes. Trust us that it is embarrassing.

The song made it to number 14 on the top 100 in 1973 and we dig it, so crank the speakers and get your self into a good mood with the Edgar Winter Group and their tune Free Ride!

Back in the ’90s when I was in highschool, I dubbed a bunch of my parents’ old records onto cassette so I could play them in my car. This album was one of them.

My old Volkswagen was so noisy you didn’t hear any of the defects off the old vinyl!
