After five days at the super famous Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California both Chad and I are back at our respective homes now and missing the smell of nitro! We were in the thick of it at the March Meet from Thursday all the way until the completion of the race yesterday. We had more people tune in to watch than ever before and I met more people in the pits and stands that are BangShift fans and readers than I could count! It was a trip to remember, that is for sure.
Since I am still knocking the cob webs off and trying to discern the time change along with the whole daylight savings deal, I went with a classic tune that we all know for today’s BangShift Daily Tune Up. In 1963 The Rip Chords released Hey Little Cobra and the song climbed all the way to number four on the Billboard chart that same year. The iconic song celebrates the ass-kicking ability of the then new Shelby Cobra and references Corvettes and Jaguar XKEs as race track victims. The visual of the singer towing the Shelby to the track, “Hitched to the back of my Cadillac,” is one for the ages. Admittedly, when I owned a Mustang Cobra and this song came on (knowing full well that it was a Shelby Cobra that was the celebrated car) I’d crank this song as loud as it would go and drive like an idiot. I may or may not miss those days!

it was the only car song written by a woman. She also co-wrote the only Christmas Hot-Rod song, “Santa’s Got a Cobra”, co-written and also recorded by The Rip Cords. As well as the theme from the movie “rocky” gonna fly now. Shelby even gave her a car. cool back story to the song
