BangShift Daily Tune Up: Lord, Mr. Ford – Jerry Reed (1973)

We’ve featured Jerry Reed tunes as part of the BangShift Daily Tune Up before so consider today a refresher course on Reed-ology. This song was a  number one hit for Reed on his 1973 album that was named the same as the song, Lord, Mr. Ford. The song is a funny look at the trials and tribulations of car ownership and it kind of speaks to gearheads who hate all the bells and whistles that cars have been laden with over the years. In the song, Reed is singing to Henry Ford to let him know that we’ve managed to royally screw up his simple idea for personal transportation.

As is the case with almost all of Reed’s music, there is some great guitar work in here, funny lyrics, and of course Reed’s signature voice. You don’t have to be a country music fan to like this song. It’ll put a smile on your face, we promise!
