So by the time you read this, I’ll have been driving for a bunch of hours on my way home from the ECTA meet in Wilmington, Ohio. Also, I bet there are still a few intrepid Power Tour participants still making the trek back to their homes as well. This felt like a good tune to start Monday off with because it is up beat and I’ll probably need something to keep me awake on the 13 hour blast home!
This is a great driving song from the Doobie Brothers that I am sure most of you know by heart. Rocking down the highway came out in 1972 and was on the Doobie Brothers album Toulouse Street. Until I looked it up, I didn’t know that this song was never released as a single, which seems insane because it probably would have blown up the charts considering the radio airplay it gets now on classic rock channels. This just seems like one of those tunes that everyone just “knows”.
Tom Johnston wrote the song and he said it was written just to be a fun tune that captures the good feelings and energy you get when hauling tail down the highway in a cool car or on a fun trip. Not much science to it and that’s OK with us! The opening guitar riff is super catchy and is one of those triggers that makes you reach for the volume knob and give it a hard crank to the right!

How about Big Block by Jeff Beck, or still trying for Radar Love by White Lion.
Radar Love by White Lion’s already been done.
