BangShift Daily Tune Up: Truck Drivin’ Man – Lynrd Skynrd (Recorded 1977 – Released 1987)

Chad’s off announcing for the Goodguys this weekend so he’s got no say in what hits the blog today! I’m kicking things off right with some good old southern rock and roll from Lynrd Skynrd’s album Legend. This album was a collection of demo and studio cuts the band had worked on before the awful plane crash that they suffered in 1977. One of those tunes is the toe tapping jam below, Truck Driving Man. This one has that signature Skynrd sound with the piano, guitar, and Ronnie Van Zant belting out the lyrics. So many Skynrd tunes are great driving songs and this is just another one. Since this song was a “demo” and not a slickly produced track it has a great edge to it that we love. A little raw fringe around the edges is what rock and roll is all about for us!

Why lead off with a story about a dude jamming gears, rolling coal, and hauling around the country in the big rig? Stay tuned to today’s content and you’ll figure it out. I promise! For now, pump the pedal and look out the mirrors to make sure some soot is rolling out of the pipes before you kicker down into low and pull out of the truck stop!
