BangShift Daily Tune Up: Whoever You Are – Geggy Tah (1996)

BangShift Daily Tune Up: Whoever You Are – Geggy Tah (1996)

A bit of a confession here. This song is a guilty pleasure of mine because I got my driver’s license in 1996 and that’s the year it peaked at #16 on the Billboard charts. This is a ridiculously simple tune that will bore its way into your brain if you let it. Be strong. It is kind of strange that this happy little song got legs and became so popular during the mid-1990s when pissed off dudes in grunge bands ruled the scene. If there was such a thing as anti-grunge, this is it. The video was a bottom dollar low budget deal as it shows the dudes in the band cruising around and singing in what looks to be a late 1960s vintage Olds Cutlass. The scenes of them are cut into old driver education footage. There are LOTS of cool old cars in the video.

It’s funny, the whole reason this song jumped to memory is because we’re in the early planning stages of our 15th high school reunion. I can remember hauling ass around town with the rest of the people in the car were belting this one out at the top of their lungs. Good times. This may not be a classic car song, but its one song that we always used to rock out to in the car!
