The Relaxing Camper Of Your Dreams Or Just Another Resto Nightmare?

The Relaxing Camper Of Your Dreams Or Just Another Resto Nightmare?

The Buick Super 8 was produced from 1940 through ’58, but its unlikely that any of them rolled off the Detroit assembly line with a chassis mounted camper shell.

This Minnesota Craigslist find is billed as a ’49 Buick Super Camper, but Buick luxury seems lost with only a front bench seat instead of the traditional sedan configuration. Attached to and replacing the rear is what appears to be a home-built or maybe farm-built, later model camper. It looks like the original cloth interior might have been replaced with aftermarket, period JC Whitney vinyl seat covers, right out of the catalog.

Located in Brainerd, we can only imagine that fishing might have been the intended use for this rig, since Minnesota is known for its many lakes, groves of trees and Lake Superior, the largest fresh water lake in the country.

This Buick Super 8 is not the top-of-the-line Roadmaster, identified by the word Super and three oval, chrome Ventiports on each of the front fenders indicating the smaller straight-8 and shorter engine bay than the larger, more luxurious Roadmaster.

Some may attempt to restore an early 70’s Winnebago, but could you imagine the attention this old-school camper would get while tooling around the Zoo at Brainerd International Raceway in August during the NHRA National event?

This uber-rusted, fat-fendered Buick screams out for an air bag suspension, lowered would look awesome, but camping in this time capsule could be yours for only $3,500. (Bet ya they’d take an lo-ball offer)

We’d also like to know something about some of the Model A Fords in the background of these photos.

Think I’d buy that, jack up the radiator cap and slide another Buick camper conversion under it.
