Rough Start: Roadmaster, Indeed…With This Six-Speed Buick Wagon, You Will Be!

It’s pretty strange how much of a cult following the last variation of the Buick Roadmaster wagons have gained. Why is that? What is it about a big B-body wagon slathered in woodgrain material that has taken ahold of the imaginations of people and caused them to part with plenty of money along the way? Is it the throwback to the heyday of the station wagon in it’s most recent form, where you have benches with tons of space in between, a rearward-facing seat that allows tons of antics for the traffic behind you? The desire to own a vehicle that is more capable than pretty much any crossover on the market yet doesn’t look like any crossover in any sense? Maybe it’s just young folk who are reaching back to a car that they knew someone in the family had. It’s still surprising to see just how loved these big Buicks are, whatever the reason.

Now, it’s not that we’re completely set to the option codes vehicles have, but this Buick has the good ones: V08 cooling package, V92 towing package, G80 limited slip rear, F40 heavy suspension, and more. The transmission is a T-56 six-speed unit and while the OEM 2.93 rear gears are a bit tall for the setup, a set of 3.73s that come with the deal could help make the big barge dance nicely. For three thousand dollars, there’s plenty of good things that you can do with this machine. Even if you weren’t a speculator, picking up this B-body would make good sense. Have fun with a dinosaur design…it’s not as bad as everyone claims!

  1. Realdeal

Honestly not a bad price for what is done to it if I hadn’t just bought a jeep I’d probably get this

I agree. Price is more than fair for the amount of work to convert to the 6 spd.

Car rich, money poor right now though.
