Just Peachy: This 1982 Chevrolet Camaro Pro Street Build Could Be A Budget-Friendly Way To A 1990s Time Machine

This 1982 Chevrolet Camaro could’ve been just about any cover car from any magazine I was reading in grade school. It fits the bill in every possible form for a Pro Street build, and more so for a Chevrolet Pro Street build. Rat motor? Check – a 468 cubic inch big block Chevrolet occupies the space where whatever unholy smogger lump the car originally came with once sat, backed up to a TH400 automatic. Tubbed? Oh, yeah, you aren’t gonna miss the twelve-inch-wide Weld Pro Stars on 31X16.50X15 Hoosiers out back or the 15X3 skinnies up front. Nor are you likely to miss the Tropical Peach Pearl paint with the mercifully restrained graphic along the sides. This Camaro might have been a fairground cruiser, but this should’ve been a car of choice in a video game like Out Run, where it could show the ubiquitous Ferrari Testarossa what muscle cars were supposed to look like circa 1990.

That isn’t to say that the car doesn’t have faults that need to be addressed. The stock gauges are inoperative, though the additional gauges do work. That would need to be fixed. The carpet and door panels could use some attention and cleaning, the front tires need to be replaced, and maybe it’s just us, but the view underhood seems to be lacking a bit in something, though everything does look clean and easy to service. We’d simply address the known shortcomings, trade out the cowl hood for a smaller scoop (or a flat one, preferrably) then we’d just drive it. What was wild years ago is mild but cool now, and this peachy little number would make for a pretty sweet cruiser.
