Rough Start: When In Vegas, Play A Safe Bet, Like This Four-Speed 1973 Chevy Laguna!

First appearing on the Pontiac GTO in 1968, Endura bumpers soon spread throughout General Motors’ lineup as a styling tool that effectively molded the front bumper into the design. No longer was a chromed plank attached to the front of a car. Now, you had a body-colored cap made of closed-cell urethane foam that cleaned up the nose (and tail, when used) and looked phenomenal. And it was solid, too…anyone who saw the 1968 GTO commercial where John DeLorean tried to bash in the beak of the Goat with a sledgehammer had to have been impressed with the lack of damage. For 1973, the Chevelle’s newest model, the Laguna, got it’s own nose treatment of Endura, and compared to the monster 5-MPH bumper that the standard Chevelle got, the Laguna’s schnozz looked so much better.

We don’t know what all is going on with this particular car. Super Sport and Laguna were two different models, with the SS getting the standard clip. We think that this car is more than likely an SS with a nose job. But that’s here nor there…you’re looking at a desert-dwelling Chevelle with a four-speed from the factory. At $2400, that’s a score in a half all on it’s own. You’ll have to do some tweaking to make it run, and there’s plenty of clean up work to be done, but with $2,600 in-hand after paying full price, making a driver out of this car will be easy enough. And if you’ve got a project car budget but want to play cheap, it’s going to be tough to pass this one up!

Im glad i bought mine years ago when it was just another piece of crap no one wanted, cause now a days they are getting rare and the Price is climping up the more rare they get. Also im the only one at a show that has one in the sea of camaros and mustangs Novak and other mainstream cars. Some day it will more than likely get the attention it deserves. Many dont realise just how good these cars drive and it can be made to handle with minor tweaks. So get yours before they are all gone.

What minor tweaks would you suggest? I’ve got a stock example of this model myself, so it would be useful.

I have been dying to build a late 70’s style street machine. This one would be a perfect starter.
