Super-Low Mile And Street-Driven: The House Of Muscle Checks Out Killer Mike’s 1996 Impala SS

Super-Low Mile And Street-Driven: The House Of Muscle Checks Out Killer Mike’s 1996 Impala SS

It was long, low, and mean….everything that the Chevrolet Caprice was not, unless you were on the business end of some police officers who had an issue with you. It was snorty and had guts for the time, where the only other players were the F-car twins, the Mustang, and a whole lot of sport coupes with half the power. It had room with room to spare, could actually handle well for it’s size, and came equipped with sofas for seating surfaces. The Chevrolet Impala SS was a shot in the arm that the brand really needed. Even if the B-body was doomed to death in 1996 in favor of more sport-utility vehicles, sending the platform out on such a high note was cool. The car was cool…everyone wanted one because it wasn’t a Camaro, Mustang or (fill in the blank). It wasn’t the typical family car of the time, either. In a sea of green Toyota Camry-filled parking lots, a black Impala SS thumping out of the pipes was all you needed to feel that much cooler than everyone else. You lost nothing, you gained everything with one.

Over twenty years later, the big B-bodies have aged better than you’d expect. People really do love these cars. But what would you do if you found one that hadn’t cleared two thousand miles yet? Most people would sock that sucker away, bring it out on only the most perfect days, and keep the miles off until an auction brought that cash windfall to them. Then you have Michael Render, better known as rapper “Killer Mike”, who found this machine, appreciates it for what it is but isn’t scared to drive it, and wasn’t afraid to modify it, but had the mind to keep everything reversible in case he did want to take it back to stock condition. Mike Musto goes for a ride in the South to remember what made this mid-1990s barge so cool, and to see what Killer Mike’s focus on this one particular car is all about in the video below…check it out!

Absolutely love this car, just need to roll on 18’s! Never was or will be a fan of those big rims. JMHO.
