Two Thousand Horsepower And Tons Of Beauty: This Impala SS Is A Beast!

Two Thousand Horsepower And Tons Of Beauty: This Impala SS Is A Beast!

If there is nothing I love more, it’s a race car that you don’t see many of every day. Yes, you see Camaros, Mustangs, Vegas, AMXs and other typical finds for a reason: the recipe works and with so much time passed since those cars were new, it’s kind of hard to screw it up. You do your research, you get the right ingredients together and you go out and knock down tens…or kiss the wall. You know, whatever works. That’s why I get excited when I see something that makes almost no sense lining up that truly has a shot. Ghislain Beaulieu’s 1992 Chrysler LeBaron, Brenda Blair’s 1977 Chevrolet Caprice, or Randy Dolensek’s 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II grab your eye because you aren’t used to seeing them often, and because when they come out, they work.

That’s the draw that we are experiencing to this 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS. How often, really, do you see the Orca-bodied Caprice or Impala hit the strip with big-boy power, paint, and the full-kill build approach? I can only think of one other one and it’s factory-black in appearance. Running a 400ci Dart small block with twin T-76 turbochargers, a very modified TH400 with a transbrake, an XFI engine management system, and twin batteries, the power is going to be nice and brutal…nobody gets to complain about the weight when there’s over 2,000 horsepower on tap. A cage that’s certified to 8.5, fire kits for both underhood and inside and two parachutes will do their best to keep you alive should you overestimate your abilities. And if you’re wanting the whole package, you can score an enclosed trailer as part of the deal.

Twenty bucks says nothing like it will ever be seen at the same track at the same time.

I’ve seen this car run at the Heavyweight race in Altanta. This car is bad ass! Wish I could afford it!
