Work Truck Wednesday: Bringing A 1969 GMC Back To Life After Living Out In The Open For Years

The old farm truck at the edge of the property that hasn’t moved in years bit is almost cliché at this point. Whether it’s a 1940s Ford, a Power Wagon with the paint flaking off of the grille guard, or just a good old pickup like this 1969 GMC 3/4 ton in a sunny field, you know what you’ll hear next: soft slide guitar noises, a sales pitch meant to make you want to buy American, and a nod to the farmers that keep you fed. Or any other kind of trotted-out tripe that will sell whatever is on the menu. Marketing is a necessary evil, but we will always pay attention to that old truck that is trotted out as a background character, mainly because they are almost always the kind of cool old iron that we’d love to own ourselves. Would you shut down an F-1, or an old Dodge M880, or any other kind of old farm truck?

So there’s a bit of rust to deal with. What would you expect to find in Minnesota? Certainly, a bearded dude with a trucker hat, plaid jacket and a Letterkenny accent showing you how to kick the old workhorse in the butt and back into life shouldn’t shock you. The fact that shortly after he started driving the GMC around, he sank the poor thing up to the hubs in a well-hidden mud-pit shouldn’t shock you. It’s an old GMC, it can take it! Click play below to see how to rouse a sleeping truck from a sixteen-year nap!
