The Hidden Fox: This 1990 Ford Mustang 7-Up Special Was Hidden Where I Grew Up As A Kid!

Port Orchard, Washington is a sleepy little village on the Sinclair Inlet of Puget Sound. Growing up, it was where I “went to town”…I lived in Olalla, which is at least ten miles from nowhere compared. Whenever I’d ride into town with my folks, I’d be on the lookout for whatever interested me car-wise…nothing out of the ordinary even today. With my stepdad on the pulse of car shows in the area and his father showing cars off or building another project, I got to see (and drive, on rare occasion) some interesting metal in town. The problem with Port Orchard was that I was too young to be anything more than the kid tagging along back then…I got my driver’s permit and license after I left the state. I wasn’t thrilled about that, because part of the fun of that region is car-hunting. Before Craigslist, if you couldn’t be bothered to pay for an Auto Trader, you went out and looked around for a car. Or you went to shows and scoped out what showed up. I remember a few machines from back then…a blue 1971 Charger, the Pontiac Can-Am, and the red 1971 ‘Cuda with the white billboards that would make an appearance now and again. But I don’t remember this car.

What you are looking at is a 1990 Ford Mustang convertible that has traveled all of nine miles, ever, in it’s life. It’s nothing wild…225 horsepower 5.0L V8, automatic trans, Emerald Green clearcoat metallic on white leather, and Mustang GT wheels. But it’s not the car itself that has the story, it’s the reason for it’s existance. This is a 7-Up special Mustang…Ford and 7-up had partnered up for a contest: if you won an under-cap contest, you had a chance of throwing a basketball at a hoop at an NCAA game. If you sank a bucket, you won one of 30 of these Mustangs. Except that’s not how things went down. The deal fell through and Ford instead turned the 7-up cars into a special edition that ran for a couple thousand units. And at least one of them has lived in a cocoon for the last twenty-seven years…

Interesting story, cool car, stunning condition. And you rip off an old 7-up ad campaign, you can make this Mustang yours, if you so desire. I’d personally rather have the 7-up. I saw the price tag…

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

You know why its called the seven up?

Because Snow White serviced all her little friends on the back seat…..

  2. bob

Those cars are doing strong money on B-J right now. I think the new owner should immediately pull the 5.0 out and drop in a shiny new LS3. Snow White could never hang on in that.
