Rough Start: A Lifted, V8 Swapped Ford Explorer, Because The Family Car Shouldn’t Suck

Rough Start: A Lifted, V8 Swapped Ford Explorer, Because The Family Car Shouldn’t Suck

What’s the bane of a young family that has a gearhead? Being reasonable when it comes to the “family car”. Contrary to popular belief, your 1991 Chevy Camaro isn’t going to do anyone any favors when it comes time to haul yourself, your significant other, and your little one around. I’ll speak from witnessing other’s experience: it’s a nightmare. But four doors, at least four seats, and room for hauling some cargo around too doesn’t offer many attractive options, does it? You’ll find many vehicles that will get the job done, but they will come at a cost: your driving pleasure will get thrown far out of the window, especially on a low-dollar budget.

But that doesn’t have to happen. Our Rough Start candidate this time is a gem that should work under just about any situation: a 1991 Ford Explorer. Not so long ago, this was the de facto family truckster. You couldn’t go anywhere without seeing one of these sport-utes. This particular one has a 1994-vintage 302 V8 and AOD automatic and sports a 3″ body lift and 33″ tires. For the asking price, we’d recommend it to anyone. For the Rough Start budget, you could simply purchase the truck and go, leaving three grand in your pocket. Nothing embarrassing about that.

Why buy a v8 swapped one when they came with v8 from the factory starting in 1996? Those I imagine are as cheap as this is now.
