Mighty Car Mods, if you are unfamiliar, is basically the Australian translation of what Roadkill is here: two guys having fun with cars. But with few exceptions, there’s a translation issue: Marty and Moog normally aren’t in Australian or American muscle. In fact, outside of an LS-swapped Nissan Silvia built in honor of Mad Max: Fury Road, we’re struggling to think of anything V8 powered they’ve built. Marty and Moog tend to play with Japanese imports, like a lot of Australians do. But we all know that muscle is alive and well in Australia, and that’s where MCM’s new spin-off show, The Skid Factory, comes into play. Two of MCM’s in-the-background helpers, Al (better known as “Turbo Yoda”) and Woody, are hosting the deal and their first big project is modernizing a 1970 Ford Fairlane with a Toyota 1UZ 4.0L V8 and a turbocharger setup. Does it sound blasphemous to you? It shouldn’t. Aside from making the Fairlane more reliable and better for daily use, this is pretty much hot-rodding in a nutshell: raiding the parts bin to improve an older car. And we suspect that the 302/C4 combination that is pulled from the Fairlane will be held onto for future work. There’s no “MAAAD!”, no hyperactivity, or any such things. There is the V8 swap, the full-manual automatic that will back it, and a lot of hands-on work and modifications. Click play below and check out the first episode:
