This 1963 Dodge Polara Is Max Wedge Perfection, Three Speed Stick And All

This 1963 Dodge Polara Is Max Wedge Perfection, Three Speed Stick And All

This 1963 Dodge Polara is a shining example of the peak of street performance in 1963. The coolest part of the car in our estimation is the fact that it is restored to completely original stock condition right down to the hubcaps. You can see the factory exhaust dumps peeking out under the rocker panels from the side, you can see the three speed stick coming up through the floor, and you can see the perfect black paint as well.

In today’s world, performance cars have to LOOK like performance cars, right? Demons, Shelby Mustangs, and ZL1 Camaros have different scoops, vents, flares, and all kinds of stuff to make them stand out from the crowd. Back in the day though, it was all the power and all the hairy muscle that was wrapped up in a package that looked like, well, that looked like every other 1963 Dodge Polara that was black. Of course when the owner hit the key and the thing rumbled to life, people knew what the story was but up until then it was a pretty sedate looking machine.

If you are wondering why the car has a three speed stick its because ALL the Max Wedge cars in 1962 and 1963 had them. The T-85 was a tough as nails transmission and it was way better suited to the rigors of the big motor than available four speeds at the time. Sure you lose something in performance with only tree forward speeds but it beats the alternative of being blown up on the side of the road, right?

This cars amazing.

Uhh, excuse me, but ALL 62-63 max wedges most assuredly did not have 3 speed sticks! I would bet the vast majority had 727 automatics, actuated by push buttons!

Add states this car has an A833 4 speed (though the original T85 is included).

Either way, this is one sweet car.

My favourite used car dealer, expensive but when I win the big one, who cares about the price?

I wish performance cars these days could look as stock as this beauty as its not the scoops, huge wheels and spoilers that gets you down the road quicker than the other guy but its what’s under the hood…
