Drift cars are a motley mix of late model muscle cars, Nissans, RX-7s and anything else light, powerful, and normally rear-driven, but it takes something special to stand out from the crowd. Sam Hubinette’s Mopar drift cars, the Bubba Drift El Camino…those were vehicles that stood out from the sea of Silvias and such that are the normal ride of choice. And in Austraila, it’s the same deal. This is a 1997 Ford EL Falcon. It’s got the prerequisite turbocharged 4.0L inline six, a swapped-in six speed manual, and all of the goodies, but it’s not a skidder or a burnout car. This Ford was meant to hang it out sideways, throwing all of it’s 500 horsepower out the back through a spooled rear end while driver Patrick Carty works his magic at the wheel. As bonkers as Aussie motorsports are, it isn’t a surprise that drifting is popular. It is a surprise, however, to see a twenty-year-old green Ford sedan working the course like a boss.
