Barely Breathing: Uncle Tony Gets To Work Diagnosing The Trouble With The Turbocharged Slant Six Dart!

Barely Breathing: Uncle Tony Gets To Work Diagnosing The Trouble With The Turbocharged Slant Six Dart!

Uncle Tony has his hands on a customer’s 1972 Dodge Dart that has a draw-through turbocharger setup raided from a Pontiac 301 hooked to a 225 Slant Six. Interesting combination, to put it mildly. It’s not the first thing we could’ve come up with. Truth be told, we’d only come up with that after a few rounds of drinks while trying to one-up each other in the weird department. But, if this thing can be tuned out right, the turbo 225 can actually be a pretty badass deal that will be a wolf in sheep’s clothing deal. Except, right now, it’s a kitten in sheep’s clothing. A mid-13 trip at the strip sounds great for a Slant, except…not at an 1/8th mile track. That sucks. So what’s the deal?

Well, quite a bit actually. Let’s start with the biggest issue: a grand total of one pound of boost was making it into the engine. One pound? A great DA at the track can do better than one pound of boost. And that’s just scratching the surface of the problems that are hiding in the engine. So follow along as Tony explains the issues and prepares to rip into the heartbeat of this beast!

When UT mentioned it ran mid-13’s, I was impressed until later said that was 1/8th mile. I can see why the guy sold the Dart after installing a turbo and going 2 seconds slower in the 1/8th!

Considering how many Turbo Trans Ams I saw burn to the ground their best option would be to ditch that turbo setup asap>

Why does it his site push so much of that guys content? He is just another guy trying to make it in the YouTube world and I don’t even think he is that entertaining or knowledgeable.
