Retired From The Daily Grind, This Chrysler Valiant Ute Is Now A Viper-Powered Cruiser

The work truck isn’t supposed to be pretty or potent. It’s entire role is based on utility: how much can it haul, how reliable is it, and how long will it last before the transmission turns to dust, the engine gouges a cylinder wall and the whole mess winds up in a wrecking yard. Work vehicles are simply here as beasts of burden…every utility van, every base-model pickup with a longbed, all destined to be worked to death. And that would be the case for this 1977 Chrysler Valiant ute, as well. Owned by a Mopar fan who had a couple of Chargers in his past, the ute was supposed to be the work vehicle that carried him day to day.

But you know how it goes: eventually it’s time to make a change here, or a change there, and the next thing you know, the ride is blown apart and there’s a Viper mill on a pallet waiting to get installed. You know how those kinds of things happen. It’s taken eleven years to piece the Valiant back together, but the end result is one pretty solid ride that must move the mail, automatic be damned:
