The Sequel: Dragging A Derelict 1958 Plymouth Back To The Land Of The Living

We’ve seen this movie before. Boy finds used, abused and pretty much abandoned 1958 Plymouth wasting away. Boy decides that the Plymouth is one of the most beautiful things he’s seen, drags it home and proceeds to do whatever it takes to bring it back to life. You’ve seen the movie. Many of you have probably read the book (and if you haven’t, you need to, because not even John Carpenter can put Stephen King’s work on the silver screen without compromises).

Dylan McCool’s latest field find is this 1958 Plymouth Savoy. No, you aren’t safe just because the word “Fury” isn’t blazing on the fins. Car movie snobs will be quick to tell you that most of the film cars were Savoys or Belvederes dolled up to be the evil lady in red herself. Besides, this is a post car, not a hardtop, and under the hood is the 230 cubic inch flathead-six. No screaming 318 Poly roar here, just a sound that is more akin to a farm tractor than anything else.

We’re not bagging on the Plymouth at all. Finding any fin car that’s been sitting for years in a savable state is a score and a half and Dylan has the chops to bring Christine’s wallflower sister back to life.

From a barn find to a “Plymouth headstone” rusting in a field with other derelicts.
Push button trans. were not uncommon.
