We’ve been spending a fair amount of time at our local neighborhood chassis shop, Tube Chassis Designz lately. Jon and his crew have been replacing the cab floors in Goliath, and recently we installed a MSD Power Grid into his race car. We’ll be running our Power Grid install story in the coming days. One of the other cars we have been following is the build of a 2004 Mustang Mach 1 for Joey Sartori. This car was formerly powered by a Vortech blown four cam Mod Motor and ran 10.50s. Over the winter the car was stripped and completely reconfigured. 

Now filled with copious amounts of Chrome moly tubing, an upgraded suspension setup, small tubs for actuall 10.5 tires, a totally bitchin’ Racepak dash, and oh, a 572ci John Kaase built Big Block Ford that has made 1130hp on the pump with no power adders. Packing compression in the 15:1 range and a camshaft with lobes that look like Sir Edmund Hillary would want to climb, the sound, even at idle is kick ass.

The former 10 second car will be well into the single digits now and the best part is that the car really retains the exterior stock vibe. There will obviously be a cowl type scoop to cover the mountainous Ford engine and aid in aerodynamics. Did we mention that the engine still had something like 800-900 ft/lbs of torque in the 8,000rpm range?

We’ll keep you updated on this bad ass Mustang’s progress once it hits the track. The Modular Motor’s fat ass made for an engine bay capable of swallowing a monster engine like this.
