We are still kind of surprised that mid-1960s Dodge trucks are enjoying the kind of popularity that they have right now. They aren’t what you would call pretty, or luxurious, or rust-proof, yet when given a little bit of love and some TLC, they suddenly become extremely desirable to certain groups. We love the look of a classic Sweptline, but how about something a little bit funkier? This 1963 Dodge W200 Power Wagon Ambulance might look a bit rough but it has good metal and enough room inside that converting it to a weekender recreational vehicle just might be an option for the adventurous gearhead.
The 225ci slant-six isn’t a powerhouse, but it’s dead-nuts reliable, and the granny-low four-speed manual and probable deep gearing would make up for the lack of grunt. Or you could go straight to a big-block conversion and not have to worry about power at all…your call. We would leave the PTO winch on the front, and as far as the inside of it…let’s just say that it is an open canvas for whatever you can put together. It’s rough, but it’s running, and with a little work here and there this former ambulance could be seriously awesome!
Swap in either a 360 or a hot turbo diesel, paint it Army green and have Suicide is Painless on repeat as you cruise the urban battlefields looking for stretcher cases…
LS swap !
late model 5.7 “Hemi” swap, overdrive…add front and rear air…I see tons of potential for an RV conversion in the back. I’d put a twin bunk above the driver/passenger area….figure out where to mount a small generator, add a sink and stove, some storage, lighting….man that would be a great weekend bug-out rig….
dont let Frieburger see this … Too Late … Chad posted it here
this needs to be a Dirt Every Day build
