Cash for Clunkers: The Hangover Begins

Cash for Clunkers: The Hangover Begins

Here it comes. As the nation begins to stir from it’s summer slumber and general lack of an attention span for the news, the glaring faults of the Cash for Clunkers program are coming to light. Lack of a positive evironmental impact? Check. Bass-ackwards economic impact? Check.

The Houston Chronicle is among the first “traditional media” that we know of having the brass to call the program bunk on its claims of helping the environment. An editorial on that paper’s site asks many of the same questions BangShifters have been asking for months.

The second piece is from the Chicago Tribune. It lets people know that if they purchased a car during the program, they probably cost themselves more money than if they had just waited. It also speaks to the fact that the program jacked up the used car supply and basically stole sales from the future.

But it was a huge success, right?
