The idea of a city allowing an organized street race as part of an event or show is pretty awesome. The cooperation that is required on both sides must be enormous and it is likely a series of compromises that finally get the deal done. On paper, this is really cool and everyone will have a great time. When the rubber meets the road, things can get weird and as you will see in this video they can get weird at any time and in any location. The reason people get trained to do things at a drag strip is so that they do not get hurt. When you start deviating from the normal things you deal with at a strip, you get stuff like this.

The pair which you see getting ready to race is comprised of a clean Fox Mustang and a ratty looking, hoodless, Olds Cutlass. The Olds is likely a car that competes at a local strip. It has exhaust dumping out the front fender and it sounds pretty healthy. It also appears to have a spool in the back. As you will see, there are two guys with the Mustang one of them is standing by the passenger door and the other looks to be by the rear tires, likely dumping a little puddle of traction compound for the Mustang driver to burn out in. With no provocation, the driver of the Olds starts his burnout and the car immediately pitches toward the Mustang and into the path of said guy standing by the door.

This man is one hell of an athlete because in one move he vaults up into the air and uses the roof of the Mustang and the deck lid of the Olds to push himself out of harm’s way without touching the ground. Had he not escaped, you may be looking at a guy who lucked out with broken legs or ended the day with a limb less than what he started with. Undeterred, they let the cars line up and hustle down a track that looks to be a closed side street. These cars both have some stones and by the time they reach the finish line, both are really honking along.
