Columnist to NASCAR Fans: Stop Complaining

We’ve talked about columnists and writers who were in the tank for NASCAR in the past, but we’ve reached a new level on that front with a recent column that appeared on Bleacherreport.com that calls out essentially all NASCAR fans as a “collection of whiners.” You’ve got to love these guys.

The columnist, Jory Fleischauer, uses multiple angles of attack to frame NASCAR fans as the ultimate in bitchy, kvetching followers of the sport. The bad news is that each of them fall down more frequently than a drunk attempting to ice skate on a frozen pond coated in axle grease.

For example he writes, “Fans of the stick and ball sports, and yes I am using them as a comparison, rarely insight such a furor in displeasure at every change their sport makes. You do not see a multitude of baseball fans calling out Bud Selig because the players aren’t as colorful as they used to be.”

Seriously?! Apparently this chap does not have sports radio in the city he lives in because it is a medium that exists solely for the purpose of complaining, second guessing, berating, insulting, and whining about all things related to the local sports teams.

A wise man once said that there’s not such thing as bad publicity, and he was damn well right. The greatest problem that NASCAR will have is when people stop complaining. When that happens, it is over for good. Complaints mean viewers, viewers mean a healthy sport.
