This week’s cool old press photo raises an interesting question: Which would you rather have? In 1957, the factory PR team drummed up this comparison of the 1928 and 1957 Plymouths. On one hand we’d want to rod the wee out of the 1928 Plymouth, but that bitchin’ 1957 model on air bags would be cruiser perfection.
It is pretty amazing the leaps and bounds made in developing the automotible that took place over just three decades. Cars went from little more than powered buggies to massive barges capable of cruising at 70 mph with one finger on the wheel.
Lots of the advancements were made in the styling department. Boiled down to their base elements, both of these cars would look pretty crude with respect to today’s machinery.
If we had to make the choice and could only drive off the lot with one of these, we’d go with the ’57. Its massive grille looks ready to devour every inch of road from here to the Pacific Ocean drinking about a thousand gallons of cheap gas along the way.
