Cool Old Press Photos: 1957 Dodge Custom Lancer

Chevy seems to get all the design credit for the 1957 model year, and don’t get us wrong, the 1957 Bow Tie offerings were great looking pieces. But many people forget that the late-1950s Dodge products had every bit the panache and gutsy styling of the Chevrolets.

The Lancer shown in the press photo looks great with the moderately tall rear fins, massive chrome bumpers and grille, and huge hood ornament. This was a car to be seen in.

All the good stuff was available in these cars like power everything, push-button transmission, and the Red Ram Hemi motors. Precious few were equipped with the D-500 option which gave the car the dual quad-version of the 325ci Red Ram.

These Dodges were a force to be reckoned with on the drag strips as the growing popularity of the NHRA Stock class began to bear out which cars speed freaks across the country needed to get their hands on in order to be the hottest shoe in town.
