We’re back with another installment of your favorite opinion game, Cool or Not? This time we’re taking a look at John Robinson’s Cummins diesel powered funny car. Robinson has been working on and running this car for several years now and it currently runs in the seven second range. Before you get all huffy about a seven second flopper, remember, it has a freaking six cylinder diesel engine in it!
We spotted the car at SEMA where it was parked right across the aisle from a big diesel powered pulling truck that also had a flip top body. The two vehicles appeared to be screaming at one another. Anyway, the fabrication work and plumbing on Robinson’s car is pretty bad ass. Between the turbo piping and the fuel lines, there some gearhead artwork happening there. We do not know what the engine makes for hp and torque but we’re guessing the torque number is stupid big.
So, is a seven second Cummins powered funny car cool or not? Scroll down, check out the photos and then you tell us!

Do you even have to ask?? Hell Yeah that thing is flippin cool!!
Darn right, it’s cool!
I’ve seen one just like it (same one different wrap maybe??) run, and yes it is cool!! Violent launch too!
COOL
That’ll work
Turbos in series, 3 digit boost.
No, 7 seconds in the quarter mile with a flopper body is *not* cool.
what are those 360 cubes ? and all steel gotta weigh 3times as much as a top fuel engine? I’d say thats cool
Two thumbs up 🙂
Seven sconds huh? Was that on a 300 foot clay track and was the slead light or heavy?
Very cool and not the first time that this has been conceived, attempted, whatever.
