Couple Give Their Favorite Cracker Barrel Waitress A New Car After Seeing Her Old One

Gary and Roxann Tackett had seen the car each and every time they came to the Cracker Barrel. A blue 2002 Hyundai Accent, one that had been put through hell (and about five deer impacts) from the looks, sat in parking lot. A ratchet strap held the hood shut. The passenger window had been shattered. The drver’s window was stuck down and plastic wrap kept the interior mostly dry. The frame was bent badly enough that the car needed rear tires every few months. The Hyundai was a rolling disaster, but the waitress who owned it, Cindi Grady, was trying to limp it along as best as she could. The Tacketts decided that they would help Grady, who they had befriended after they had moved to Missouri from Arkansas earlier this year.

With a manager leading her outside, and the Tackett’s daughter, Chelsea Todd, recording everything, Gary presented Cindi with a silver 2008 Ford Fusion as a gift to the absolutely shocked waitress. Upon learning the story, her insurance agent and a state inspection station waived any fees and Grady’s mechanic repaired the Ford’s third brake light for free. She still hasn’t come to terms with the gift, which has simply left her “overwhelmed”.

Nice story. Good choice of a solid used car.

Hope it works out better than when I bought a friend a car. His Dodge Shadow was about done for, running on 3 cylinders, and he couldn’t afford to repair or replace it. He was living in an apartment the size of some people’s bathroom, with a roommate to make ends meet. The guy had the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met. I bought him a 1992 F-150 that was in good shape and we spent a weekend day hooning the Shadow to death since I wanted him to have some fun. Unfortunately I didn’t think to spot him some money for insurance, and the next day he bumped into someone at a stoplight (no damage). Without insurance the truck was seized and impounded, and the $150/day fees quickly outpaced the value of the truck.

My mom did this last winter after my grandfather died. his car was nothing special, a 2002 grand marquis and we gave it to a young guy with two kids that worked at his retirement home as his grand marquis had just ate itself the week before. car was worth about 3500-4000 but seeing the joy it brought that family was worth way more to us.

also put about 1500 dollars worth of work into before we gave it to him so he wouldn’t have to spend money to pass safety and we paid for all the ownership transfer fees.
