This 1963 Clark Cortez Motorhome Is Incredibly Nice – Chad, Hide Your Wallet!

We’ve always been on the bleeding edge of cool old motorhome discoveries here at BangShift but we may have actually outdone ourselves here. This is a 1963 Clark Cortez motorhome and it is one of the nicest examples we have ever seen. The seller claims that it could be the nicest one on Earth and this may be the first time we are ever agreeing with such a strong statement from a Craigslist ad. This thing is amazing.

The big deal about the early Clark Cortez motorhomes is that they really set the design ideas for the stuff that came after them. If you can believe it, the rig is about as long as a Chevy Suburban. The interior of this one is totally brand new looking right down to the gaudy bathroom and all. This monster was originally powered by a weenie slant six but has been repowered with a Chrysler industrial 318 engine. It will still fail to out-acclerate a heavily laden camel but hot damn will it look good while doing it!

If you have been scouring the world for a cool, vintage, road slug, stop looking and give this guy the money. As we often ask in these scenarios, where are you going to find another one? These were built of steel, not out of a bunch of fiberglass stuff glued onto aluminum or whatnot. The reason we say that is to let you know that the Cortez does not seem to be a krylon restored box on wheels.

We want to be driving down the road, cooking bacon on the stove in this thing tomorrow.

Chad is going to lose his mind.

it looks amazing! a real house on wheels. I would like to exist throughout the country in this way. this is my dream. I recently found a service that helps me get help in writing a homework, it gives me more time to pull it off. where you could buy such a car?

The Cortez was pretty heavy for its size – the Clark company is the same one that makes Clark forklifts, and this thing was built like you could put forks on it and use it to stack logs all day. The upside is that it’s WAY sturdier than a lot of the other motor homes from the time. That’s also apparently why it was front wheel drive – thankfully, they didn’t put rear steering on it.
