CL Find Redemption: A Super Rare 1967 International Military Ambulance

CL Find Redemption: A Super Rare 1967 International Military Ambulance

Because of the earlier Firebird Craigslist disaster we felt like we had to redeem ourselves on this fine Saturday, lest you think we can only find worthless junk. Take this cool 1967 International former Navy ambulance truck. It has 13,000 miles, it is four wheel drive, there’s a Dana 60 up front and a full floating Dana 70 out back, plenty of room to sleep in the back, and a virtually gutless inline six engine in the front. Channing Ivey tipped us off to the CL ad and that drove us to hunt around a little more. As it turns out, this truck has essentially been for sale since 2006 so either the market is really small or this truck needs some serious TLC. It has been agreed by every knowledgeable old truck guy I have shown this truck to that it is very, very rare. We have never seen another one.

Basically a big box on wheels, the truck is rugged and spartan. We have no idea which of International’s venerable inline six engines was installed in this truck but it could be anything from a 220ci small six to a 502ci huge six. We’re guessing it is one of the myriad engines that falls into the large space between those two. Like we always say, inliners are awesome for their ability to withstand punishment, abuse, and harsh environments. We don’t know if this ambulance ever transported a wounded sailor or solider, but we do know that it is a cool piece of military history that we’d love to own

It looks pretty solid, probably just a real small market for it. I’d love to have that thing. Looks like the guy has some cool other ex-military vehicles out back as well

Nice truck. It is very rare as well. The contract for IH trucks with the military was very small and limited to Navy and Air Force only, I believe. Most ambulances from this vintage were the Jeep Kaiser based M725 units. It would make a great camper conversion. Thats a Jeep CJ-10 in the background; can’t tell if its and airport tug, or one of the rarer export pickups. Probably an airplane tug unit, which are fairly common in the USA. They were very SWB locked into low range 2wd and most used a Nissan diesel motor for power.
