Craigslist Find: This 1957 Chevy Is A Black On Black Two Door Hardtop That Has Lived In Colorado Its Whole Life And Totally Rules

Craigslist Find: This 1957 Chevy Is A Black On Black Two Door Hardtop That Has Lived In Colorado Its Whole Life And Totally Rules

It is pretty rare to find a car like this and we’re glad that Tommy Kreisler did and shared the link with us. This 1957 Chevy has lived its whole life in the state of Colorado. It is powered by the original 283ci Power Pack engine it was sent with, has numbers matching from front to back, is an awesome looking black on black paint scheme car, and was within the same family since new until the current owner got it. There are some cars that just exude cool and seem greater than a sum of their parts and this 1957 Chevy is one of those cars for me. The fact that it has 127,000 original miles on it makes it even cooler.

The seller does point out that during its life some period upgrades were made like the Corvette valve covers and other small things. Rightly, he left those in place. I supposed you could go full on resto Nazi and undo those things but you’d be destroying a real part of the character and history of the machine. This is not the original paint as it has been squired once in its life. All the chrome from the bumpers and everything in between is original and in amazingly good condition. The seller got the car and promptly rebuilt the carb, replaced the whole braking system from the wheel cylinders to the lines and he replaced the exhaust system. Other than that, he hit the key and started driving.

This isn’t a super rare fuel injected car or some sort of crazy trick factory one off that no one knew about, but it is an exceptionally neat car that I am in love with. The seller obviously looked at it the same that I did because he bought the car with the intention of jamming a 572 and a stick shift trans into it and couldn’t bring himself to do it. I am normally not a guy who is opposed to chopping stuff to pieces to make it cool, but I’d be in the same boat as the seller here. Changing this thing from the perfection that it currently is would make me shed a single tear like the Native American guy in the littering commercial.

What do you think? Did the guy make the right call in keeping this thing as it is or should he have just fired up the torch and got to cutting it up?

I would just put in a ZZ4 back by a 6 spd Tremec and disc brake, then enjoy it!

Looks like someone already bought it.

it might already have discs, it has a boosted non-original master cylinder and those wheel covers are from 68? and newer chevys. suppose the wheels are 15s?

(The title on the listings page will be removed in just a few minutes.)

Anybody that would torch this up to stuff in a 502 should be beaten vigorously about the head and shoulders. There are plenty of projects out there that are ripe for that treatment, keep this one just like it is.

I literally almost bought this car 2 weeks ago. I struggled on weather or not I’d be ok pulling the motor and dropping my blown small block in it. It’s a beautiful car! I hope it lands a nice home in the states

Don’t change a thing, except for the oil, awesome freakin car.

Notice the bumper guards, I’m not a 57 Nut, but these gotta be rare!

I dunno if I’d change it either….maybe in such a way that it wouldn’t get cut up (even a floor shifter hole) and could be put back to original. The blower motor with a hole in an extra hood wouldn’t hurt!
